In the year 1997, the first batch of 30 students successfully completed a course on Basic Photography, which was held at the premises of the Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA) in Bur Dubai.

Inspired by their new found knowledge in photography, and having acquired the skill in taking good pictures, the students aspired for more know-how that will supplement their talent, and that is how to process their own films and prints.

The first-ever photography graduation ceremony was held. And it was during this momentous event; Mrs. Gladys Reyes inducted the first set of officers of the Club, the then outgoing Welfare Officer.

In January 2000, the Fourth batch of Basic Photography students, concerned with the way that the Club is slowly disintegrating, decided to hold the First Amateur Photography contest and exhibition.

With the success of this event, the Club was given the much needed impetus. Consequently, the Club was reorganized and renamed “LightForm Filipino Photographers Guild – Dubai” (LFPG-D) to mirror its new thrust.

On 14th April 2000, a new set of Officers was duly elected and was inducted by Labour Attache Carmelita Arriola. With the trust put on them by the members, the officers deemed it a must that they are to “provide a continuous learning experience” for the photography students, and have set out to accomplish the following:

· Formulate the Guild’s Constitution and By-laws;

· Ongoing Black & White Developing & Processing

· Plan and execute a yearlong calendar of activities, trainings (indoor & outdoor),

· Mini-seminars, Workshops and Seminars;

· Ongoing & established the Advanced Photography class;

· Conduct workshops on Night, Sports, Product, Fashion and any other related Photography.

· Organized a wildlife trip to “Seer Baniyas Island” located in Abu Dhabi on 27th December 2002. Competition with the theme “Wildlife” and graduation was held on 10th January 2003.

· Organize the “8th Environmental Awareness Photo Competition”.  This was held on 23rd November 2009 at the Metropolitan Palace Hotel and attracted 205 participants from the Basic & Advanced Photography class who submitted 300 entries.

· Successfully organize the yearly Photo Challenge since 2003 with the theme “OFW, Ang Bagong Bayani” which started on Batch 8 graduation night which was held on 5th June 2003.

. Participate and volunteer on the yearly celebration of the Philippine Independence Day and Bayanihan Festival.

With its various activities, LFPG-D has successfully created a growing interest amongst the community members. With 1,145 graduates to date, LFPG-D is now on its 23rd batch of Basic Photography class and 602 registered Members.

The Guild which strives to maintain a high level of professionalism in photography, has gone from strength to strength . . .
